This site is specifically geared towards parents and caregivers of children who have spina bifida. Please be aware that this community is not a chapter of the Spina Bifida Association of America (SBA or SBAA). (The closest SBA chapters are located in Nashville, TN; Little Rock, AR; and Richland, MS.) The SBA has an extensive list of requirements for affiliation (such as a minimum operating budget of $ 50,000/yr) that are not feasible for a brand-new group to attain. However, once this group is reasonably established, its members will have the opportunity to decide whether to officially link up with the SBA or continue operating independently.

Mon, 06/02/2008 - 2:18pm — karin buchananOn Monday, June 2, 2008, Karin and Breanna Buchanan appeared on local morning show "Live at 9:00" to talk about the Spina Bifida Community of Memphis. While Karin tried to raise awareness of spina bifida and publicize the new website, Bree stole the show (surprise!), fascinated with seeing herself on TV. The entire show is posted online, and will be available for a week; the segment about SBCM was second and starts almost 15 minutes into the hour.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Ryan Lancaster, a friend/coworker who volunteered his time to recreate the site in a format that (he promises) will be easier for me to maintain.
